Savannah Guthrie honored Richard Engel’s deceased son Henry with a photo back after the 6-year-old’s death.

“Dearest Henry, I will never forget your sweet spirit and the twinkle in my eye” Guthrie, 50, wrote via Twitter Thursday.

In a sweet crack, the Today presenter smiled at Henry as he touched her face with a smile.

Hours earlier, Guthrie’s colleague at NBC News announced that his eldest son had died on August 9 after battling a rare neurological disorder.

“Our beloved son Henry has died,” 48-year-old Engel tweeted. He had the softest blue eyes, a relaxed smile and an infectious giggle.

“We always surrounded him with love, and he loved her back and much more,” the journalist continued.

Engel and his wife Mary Forrest, who are also the parents of their 3-year-old son Theodore, welcomed Henry in September 2015.

Two years later, Engel revealed the oldest child’s diagnosis of Rett syndrome, which is characterized by severe physical and cognitive impairments.

In June, the toddler’s health “deteriorated”.

“His condition progressed and he developed dystonia: uncontrolled trembling / stiffness,” Engel tweeted at the time.

The chief foreign correspondent of NBC News shared the material with Henry his younger brother, writing: “He was in the hospital for 6 weeks, but now he’s home and he’s made love by Brother Theo.”

Engel concluded, “Thank you all for all the nice news from Henry, our handsome gentleman.”
