Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs apologizes for ‘inexcusable behavior’ in video of him punching Cassie Ventura
Sean “Diddy” Combs has released a video apology just days after disturbing footage of him beating ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura resurfaced.
“It’s hard to remember the darkest moments in life, but sometimes you have to do it,” he said in the video posted on Instagram on Sunday. “I was screwed up. I mean, I’ve hit rock bottom, but I’m not making excuses.
“My behavior while watching this video is inexcusable,” he continued. “I take full responsibility for my actions in this video. I’m disgusted.”
“I was disgusted when I did it, and I’m disgusted now. I went and looked for professional help, I started going to therapy and rehabilitation, I had to ask God for His mercy and grace,” he added.
Before the video was released last week, Combs vehemently denied Ventura’s allegations of molestation and rape, calling them “offensive and outrageous.”
Just days after Ventura’s November 2023 lawsuit against Combs, the couple settled for an undisclosed amount, which the rapper said at the time was “in no way an admission of wrongdoing.”
In his apology video, Combs notably made no mention of Ventura, whom he dated on and off from 2007 to 2018.
The music mogul, who said he “strives to be a better person every day,” ended the video by saying he was “not asking for forgiveness” but was “truly sorry.”
While some fans slammed Combs for making the film solely about himself, others called him out for taking responsibility only after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Combs could not be charged with assault due to the statute of limitations.
The apology came just days after CNN obtained video of Combs beating and dragging Ventura through a hotel in 2016.
The incident, which occurred at the now-closed InterContinental hotel, was detailed in Ventura’s lawsuit, corroborating some of her allegations against Combs.
The footage shows her sneaking out of the hotel room with a hood over her head, heading towards the elevators.
However, Diddy then emerges from their room in only a towel and chases her. Once he confronted her, the rapper grabbed her by the neck and started kicking her repeatedly.
After a minute, Combs – who Ventura said was “extremely intoxicated” at the time – drags her across the floor by her hoodie.
Although the “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper left Ventura in the hallway, he eventually returned and pushed her to the floor before throwing items at her.
“This shocking video only further confirmed Mr. Combs’ disturbing and predatory behavior,” Ventura’s attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, said in a statement to Page Six.
“Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in bringing this matter to light.”
In the lawsuit, Ventura claimed that before the hallway incident, Combs also punched her in the face.
While the “Me & U” singer didn’t directly address the heartbreaking video, her husband, Alex Fine, posted a scathing message about the abusers on his Instagram on Friday.
Fine – who married Ventura in September 2019 – addressed the letter he wrote “some time ago” to “women and children.”
“Men who beat women are not men. The men who enable this and protect these people are not men,” he wrote. “As men, violence against women should not be inevitable. Check on your brothers, friends and family. Our daughters, sisters, mothers and wives should feel protected and loved.”
“Hold the women in your life with the utmost respect,” the model continued. “Men who hurt women hate women.”
He then addressed “all survivors” of domestic violence and abuse, urging them to “find men and women who help and love.”
Fine also reminded them that their stories and experiences were “real” and that he would always believe them.
“You are not alone. There are men and women who only care about your well-being and safety. We want you to succeed and flourish,” Fine explained.
The fitness trainer, who shares 4-year-old Frankie and 3-year-old Sunny with Ventura, then apologized to women and children who don’t feel “protected” or “equal” in the world.
Finally, he warned the perpetrators that their time was up.
“You’ve had enough, you’re no longer safe, you’re no longer protected. The men by your side are just as weak, you are so unhappy with yourself [death] will be considered kindness.”
