Selena Gomez revealed that she had to re-learn “certain words” during her “detox” treatment following a 2018 episode of psychosis and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

“I just walked away”, star of “My Mind & Me” Rolling Stone said for its cover from December 2022, published on Thursday.

“There was no part of me anymore,” she continued.

Gomez, 30, explained how her psychiatrist was “steering” her back to him.

“Basically I had to detox from the drugs I was taking,” said the singer. “I had to learn to remember certain words. I would have forgotten where I was when we were talking.

“It took me a lot of hard work to (a) accept that I am bipolar, but (b) learn how to deal with it because it won’t go away,” she continued.

Gomez was initially taken to a treatment center after hearing voices and becoming paranoid – although she “remembers only bits” of her time there.

The actress told the magazine that she was then “unrecognizable” to her friends and spent “several months” in treatment before “recovering from psychosis.”

Gomez’s stay with Privé-Swiss was not her first treatment experience as she had previously been treated at Arizona’s Dawn’s Meadows and Texas center in 2014 and 2016 for anxiety and depression, respectively.

Although the “Only Building Murders” star has spoken out loud for years about her mental health issues, she bares everything on My Mind & Me.
