Serena Williams receives help from her daughter Olympia with regard to fashion
Serena Williams does not take a break after quitting tennis after the US Open. Instead, she delves into her fashion business and even gets help from her 5-year-old daughter Olympia.
The tennis icon talked about her design process while showing off her outfits S by Serena at IMG’s and Spring Studios’ Glam Slam event this week – and told the audience that her firstborn with husband Alexis Ohanian was offering to help.
“Sometimes I’ll say, ‘Olympia, which color do you like more?’ or “Which dress do you like more?” and she’ll say, “The one,” Williams explained during the question and answer.
“And I’m not sure if he’s just pointing to one because he wants to play games later.”
Williams has had the line for several years, but this will be the first time she can focus more on it after her tennis career ends.
“I don’t know what my freedom will be,” Williams, who retired earlier this month, told the crowd.
But when it comes to fashion, “I’m really excited to discover this… and I want to dive deep,” she continued. “I’ve been in fashion for so long and that’s what I went to school for. Most of my life has been dedicated to tennis and I have never been able to fully focus on the things I have such a passion for. These collections are going to get really crazy. ”
Williams also walked the Vogue World catwalk show on Monday wearing a silver Balenciaga gown, then sat next to Anna Wintour in the front row.
Williams was the September cover star of Vogue – and Olympia even joined her on the magazine front – and announced her retirement in an accompanying interview.
Fashion isn’t the only business Williams runs: she also revived her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures, at last month’s 1640 Society Family Office Wealth Forum, also known as “Davos of the Hamptons.”
