Early life

Alexis Kerry Ohanian was born in the city of Brooklyn in upstate New York. After the Armenian Genocide, his maternal grandparents fled to the United States, where they were granted asylum. He attended Howard High School in Ellicott City, Maryland, and as a senior in 2001, he was selected to give the student address at his graduation ceremony.

Ohanian and his friend Steve Huffman introduced the concept of MyMobileMenu to Y Combinator shortly after Ohanian graduated from the University of Virginia in 2005 with degrees in commerce and history.
