Shia LaBeouf gave an ultimatum to Florence Pugh
He thinks this is the “Savage” accusation.
Olivia Wilde has doubled her claim that she fired Shia LaBeouf from Don’t Worry Darling, now claiming that he had given her an “ultimatum” with Florence Pugh.
“We had to replace the Shi’ites. He’s a fantastic actor, but it didn’t work out, “film director, 38, said in “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Wednesday. “When he gave me an ultimatum, you know, he or Florence, I chose Florence.”
Responding to LaBeouf’s claim that Wilde was begging him to stay on the project, she explained: “It was he who felt he was moving away, and I felt as if we were going on without him.
“At the beginning of filming, as a director, I tried to mediate between people to try to see if they could work together happily,” Wilde explained. “When it became clear that this was an unsustainable work relationship, I was given an ultimatum. I chose my actress – which I am very happy about.
“I was depressed at the time that we couldn’t make it work? Yes. Did information about him later come out to reassure me that we made the right decision? Yes, she added, noting that the video in which she asked 36-year-old LeBoeuf to stay in the film was “taken out of context”.
Wilde also said it was a “semantic question” when asked if there was a possibility that she and LaBeouf were telling the truth and there was simply confusion.
“It wasn’t going to move forward the way he wanted, so he had to go,” she said.
Despite rumors that Wilde and Pugh had not seen each other in the eye, the filmmaker had only good things to say about the 26-year-old actress.
“She’s awesome in this movie. And the point is, she’s brave enough to listen to the brave people who came before her, whom everyone else ignored, and trust her instincts, ”Wilde said.
Wilde also called Pugh “brave” and “superhero” for dismantling the “system” for women in Hollywood.
“Florence Pugh is as good at dramatic work as she is at action. There are real action sequences in the movie. She has what I call her “Tom Cruise run.” It’s the most impressive run I’ve ever seen, ”she said.
The Booksmart director also referred to rumors that Pugh deliberately skipped the “Don’t Worry Baby” press conference at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month.
“I have nothing but respect for Florence’s talent. She’s fantastic. He is on the set of his movie “Dune [Part Two]”Right now,” she explained. “There is nothing more fun than a busy actress. I have nothing against her for any reason.
But when Stephen Colbert pointed out that Pugh was photographed drinking a cocktail at a press conference, Wilde omitted the question and said it was sexist when people pitted her and Pugh against each other.
“I think it’s funny that my male fellow directors don’t answer questions about the cast,” she retorted.
LaBeouf denied that Wilde heard him out in August, saying his departure from “Don’t worry, honey” had more to do with a conflict on the schedule.
“We both know the reasons for my departure,” he reportedly wrote to Wilde in an email. “I quit your movie because your actors and I couldn’t find the time to rehearse.”
The “Even Stevens” graduate asked the former “OC” actress to “correct the narrative,” adding: “I was never fired, Olivia. And while I fully understand the appeal of pushing this story because of the current social landscape, the social currency it brings. That’s not true”.
At that time, a 2020 video leaked where Wilde seemingly pleaded with LaBeouf to stay on board.
“I wanted to contact her because I feel like I’m not ready to give up on this yet,” she said then. “I’m heartbroken too, and I want to figure it out.”
Alum “House” also referred to the drama starring Pugh, saying, “I think this might be a wake-up call for Miss Flo and I want to know if you are open to trying with me, with us.”
Wilde added, “If she’s really committed, if she’s really putting her mind and heart into it right now, and if you can make peace – and I respect your point of view, I respect her – but if you can do it, what do you think?”
LaBeouf’s claims came after Wilde Variety said that she fired the actor to “protect” Pugh. He was previously accused of bullying and sought treatment in early 2021.
LaBeouf was eventually replaced by Wilde’s boyfriend Harry Styles.
Wilde and the 28-year-old singer “Watermelon Sugar” met on the set of a psychological thriller and began dating shortly after she and Jason Sudeikis broke up. The director and star of “Ted Lasso” (47) has two children – Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5 – and are currently in a nasty custody battle.
Don’t Worry Darling hits theaters on Friday.
