Elsewhere in the interview, LaBeouf explained how allegations of abuse made against him in recent years led to a rift with his mother, who he described as “confused beyond imagination” when the claims emerged. “The news that came out was, ‘I was abusive to women, I shot dogs, I was willing to give women STDs,'” he said, calling the allegations “lewd.”

However, according to LaBeouf, he was able to reconnect with his mother after finding “peace” through prayer and studying at a monastery. “Seeing other people who had sinned beyond anything I could imagine also found in Christ made me feel, ‘Oh, that gives me hope,'” he explained. “I started hearing the experiences of other spoiled people who had found their way through it, and it made me feel like I had permission.”
