Sofia Richie bowed to her husband Elliot Grainge’s deceased mother on behalf of her daughter

Sofia Richie pays tribute to her late mother-in-law.

On Friday, Richie revealed on Instagram that she and her husband Elliot Grainge welcomed their first child together earlier this week, and the baby girl’s name is a nod to Grainge’s mother.

“Eloise Samantha Grainge 🤍5·20·24, best day of my life🤍” – the 25-year-old new mother captioned a black and white photo of her little baby’s toes.

The baby’s middle name is a sweet reference to Elliot’s late mother, Samantha Berg, who experienced complications during childbirth. These complications led to a coma, in which she remained until her death in 2007.

Richie and Grainge first announced their pregnancy news in January, after months of keeping the baby secret.

The model told Vogue in an interview that they decided to hide the pregnancy to “protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”

She then showed off her pregnancy belly on Instagram with a photo from a Vogue session.

“Our hearts are filled with great love! Thank you for all your support! I can’t wait for the next chapter of my life,” she said.

Her famous father, Lionel Richie, has also shown how excited he is about the baby’s arrival since the happy couple announced they were expecting.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “American Idol” judge, who didn’t want to use the title “grandpa,” told the outlet that he was “excited” to hear that his “baby is having a baby.”

“They are just over the moon,” he said of the couple.

Lionel is also grandfather to daughter Nicole Richie’s two children, Harlow and Sparrow, whom she shares with husband Joel Madden.

Sofia and Elliot went public with their relationship in April 2021.

The fashion designer happily talked about their love story months later in August, telling Who What Wear that she “knew when we started dating that he was my husband.”

“When we started getting romantic, he just made me feel different,” she recalled. “It was a sense of security. It was a feeling of being really appreciated.”

The music director asked this question in April 2022.

A year later they married in France.

Sofia’s father was present at the elegant ceremony, as well as other A-listers who walked her down the aisle.
