Stakt Mat: who are they and what do they do?

Millie Blumka was involved in a number of social organizations during her undergraduate studies and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tulane University. Also, as a student, Millie worked as a fashion marketing intern at Runway2Street, which gave her the experience she badly needed. Millie joined SinglePlatform after graduating as an Inside Sales Representative but was promoted to Senior Partnerships Account Executive in October 2017.

Prior to being promoted to Sales Manager, Millie joined Simplifeye as a Senior Channel & Partner Sales Executive after leaving SinglePlatform in October 2018. But in May 2021, Millie decided to change employers after receiving the Partnerships Manager position at Showfields as she didn’t want to stay in one place for too long. She currently holds the position of Director of Partnerships in the same organization, having received a second promotion.

The AB Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, on the other hand, awarded Taylor Borenstein a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 2016. During her studies, she did internships with organizations such as Tour Director, Course Hero, Inc., ConvergeDirect and Bloomberg. However, after graduating in 2016, she joined Bloomberg as a product specialist. Taylor hasn’t changed jobs too many times in her professional career, but she is very ambitious and has always let her talent and hard work do the talking.

After just a few months at Bloomberg, Taylor was promoted to Senior Product Specialist and two more promotions later, she is currently employed at Bloomberg LP as a Product Implementation Team Lead. When Taylor and Millie made the decision to do more challenging workouts, the Stakt mat was developed. Most yoga mats are often quite flimsy for comfort, making it difficult for users to engage in more demanding exercises such as sculpting, Pilates, or high-intensity training. Also, it becomes tiresome to carry two mats, one for yoga and the other for other disciplines.

Realizing there was no way to solve their problem, Taylor and Millie pooled their ideas to create Stakt Mat. A thicker yoga mat that can be used for yoga as well as other more demanding workouts is called the Stakt Mat. In addition, consumers can use it for tricep dips and incline/incline exercises since it can be folded. The mat can also be folded up and stowed away to save space. It is very easy to clean with water and soap that does not contain oil.

Where is Stakt Mat now?

While Millie and Taylor recognized the brilliance of the Stakt Mat concept, they also knew they needed to promote it effectively in their intended market. To sponsor the mats and expand their reach, the companies partnered with fitness trainers in SoHo, Manhattan, who know their way around yoga and other forms of exercise. They also took to social media, and to their surprise, their stalk mat video went viral on TikTok. As a result, as soon as the mat hit the market, customers flocked to buy one and stocks quickly ran out.

Although Sakt Mat was initially very popular, problems emerged due to the COVID-19 epidemic, which forced companies to close their doors and disrupt their supply networks. Also, Millie and Taylor had to go over budget to solve these logistical problems, but they were desperate to win. The pandemic eventually subsided, and once regular business operations resumed, sales picked up again.

As well as running a thriving business, the two support charities and run the Upcycle program, where they accept used Stakt mats from their customers in exchange for a discount on a brand new mat. Customers interested in purchasing a Stakt mat can only do so through their official website, and while the mats come in a variety of colors, a single piece costs $86.50. Millie and Taylor’s rise to fame has been quite inspirational and we’re sure the company will be on its way to more success in the near future.

They also act as each other’s primary source of support. They were once friends, and as a result they hold each other in high esteem and trust each other’s judgment.

We have a group chat with all of us and our partners and ideas keep being thrown out, says Millie, so having this support system is extremely beneficial.

They get a lot of inspiration from other women entrepreneurs and social media influencers they follow, and these women never stop inspiring them to make their ideas a reality. You will find a lot of inspiration here. These women serve as examples for others to succeed at the same level as them.

And their knowledge shows that they studied with the best. They have promoted their product using a wide range of creative marketing tactics and partnerships, and these initiatives have been successful in attracting people to Stakt. They were able to attract thousands of people before they even released their product, for example by interacting with fitness influencers or sponsoring gym programs in SOHO. As the video gained popularity on TikTok, they were able to completely sell out the Stakt mats on day one.

Of course, the journey to a launch that sells out every ticket isn’t as spectacular as social media might make it seem. Along the way there will always be difficulties and opportunities for improvement. especially when starting a business in the midst of a global pandemic.

One of the biggest challenges for Millie and Taylor has been the supply chain disruptions brought on by the outbreak. Finding alternatives to ship on-time from abroad without breaking the budget was no easy task.

Speaking about their company, Taylor and Millie reflected on the challenges their company has faced and emphasized the value of continuous learning.
