Amidst the publicity frenzy of her upcoming album “Midnights”, Taylor Swift delved into how her relationship with longtime lover Joe Alwyn inspired the song “Lavender Haze.”
Grammy winner, 32 years old, shared in the video on Instagram she first heard the term on Friday while watching “Mad Men”.
“It turns out that it was a common expression used in the 1950s when they just described being in love,” explained Swift, adding that “Lavender Haze” meant you were in the “all-embracing splendor of love.” and found it “really beautiful.”
“I think theoretically, when you’re in Lavender Haze, you’ll do whatever it takes to stay there and not let people pull you off the cloud,” the singer of “Wildest Dreams” also noted, submitting why the sentence resembled her 31-year-old Alwyn.
Swift then referred to her “six-year relationship” – without mentioning her partner – and said the duo “had to avoid weird tabloid rumors” and they “just ignored it.”
“So this song is a kind of ignoring these things to protect the real things,” she added. “Hope you like it.”
Swift and Alwyn began dating in 2016 after singer “Blank Space” parted ways with musician Calvin Harris.
Unlike many previous romances pop stars – which included well-documented romances with Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Harry Styles and Tom Hiddleston – “All too Well” singer and “Favorite” star tried their best to private relationship.
Recently, at the end of spring, rumors began circulating that the couple had become engaged, but the couple has yet to announce.
In April, Alwyn spoke of an “increasingly persistent” culture that had led him and Swift to keep their relationship out of the spotlight.
It’s not really [because I] you want to be guarded and private, it’s more like a response to something else, he told Elle magazine then.
“We live in a culture that is getting more and more intrusive … The more you give – and honestly, even if you don’t – something will be taken away.”
