Teen Mom stars support Amber Portwood after losing custody of her baby
Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood family supports her.
Leah Messer, Briana DeJesus and Cheyenne Floyd share their support for the reality TV star after losing custody of her 4-year-old son James to ex-Andrew Glennon.
“Amber is a very strong woman who never gives up easily and never gives up,” says 30-year-old Messer Page Six at a virtual event for MTV’s new series “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.”
“I only contacted her to support [her]she adds. “It’ll be okay.”
DeJesus, 28, and Floyd, 29, are equally optimistic about their friend’s future.
“I love her and I feel like she will be fine,” says DeJesus. “It’s tough now. But if she remains strong and keeps her head high, she will be able to overcome anything in life. “
Floyd explains: “We’re just disconnecting from the girls, I think we’ve all reached out and we’re trying to show our support in different ways as best we can.”
Messer, DeJesus and Floyd – who became especially close to 32-year-old Portwood during the filming of the recent spinoff “Teen Mom: Family Reunion” – will engage with her in “The Next Chapter”.
It remains unclear whether the new series – in which “Teen Mom OG” and “Teen Mom 2” are merged into one series – will cover Portwood’s recent legal failure.
Last month, an Indiana judge granted Glennon, 38, physical and legal custody of their son. Portwood will visit James three times a month, but her ex plans to relocate her child to her native state of California.
“Amber is a strong woman and she will just have to adjust to new circumstances,” notes Floyd. “She’ll be great, she’ll be fine.”
Glennon and Portwood – who started dating in 2017 – welcomed James in May 2018. The couple broke up a year later when “So, You’re Crazy Too?” the author was arrested for allegedly attacking him with a machete.
Portwood pleaded guilty to beating at home, recklessly committed with a lethal weapon, and being beaten in the presence of a child under the age of 16.
Alum “16 and pregnant” – who has since been diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality disorder, among several mental illnesses – was sentenced to a probationary period and placed in parenting classes.
Portwood has stated via social media that she believes her struggles with mental health have been “used against her.”
Previously, she claimed to have undergone a lot of psychological assessments to prove herself, adding that “people who received therapy, attended classes, and tried to change should not continue to be punished for past mistakes.”
Portwood promised to “fight” the ruling while remaining “positive”.
The MTV personality also shares 13-year-old daughter Leah with ex-fiancé Gary Shirley. They share the legal custody, but 35-year-old Shirley has the primary physical care of the teenager.
“Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” – starring Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell, Ashley Jones and Jade Cline – premieres Tuesday, September 6 at 8:00 PM EST on MTV.
