Casey Hammer— sister of Armie’s dad, Michael Armand Hammerand author of a 2015 memoir Survive your birthright—said in the second episode of Sins of the Father that she was “not shocked” when the allegations against her nephew surfaced. “This behavior is deeply ingrained.”
Casey said she witnessed her father Julian Armand Hammerphysically abusing and otherwise terrorizing his mother, Glenna Sue. (Julian died in 1996 and Glenna Sue died in 2010). Armand Hammer (Julian’s father and Armie’s great-grandfather, who died in 1990) bullied her into staying. According to his granddaughter, Armand had a “scary, scary energy.”
The oil tycoon kept files on everyone in the family, Casey said, describing their lives as “a chessboard, and my grandfather liked to control all the moves.”
When her parents divorced, Casey said, Glenna Sue received $200 in child support from Julian. Casey said her father always had drugs and young women in his home, that women “were disposable in the Hammer family.”
Casey claimed in her book that her father had also physically and sexually abused her, and repeated that allegation on the show, crediting therapy in the 1990s with helping her recover repressed memories. She hoped her mother would tell her she was crazy, Casey recalled, “but it turns out she knew, and what I remembered was actually happening.”
Regretting that she never met her father during his lifetime, Casey said: “The generation I grew up in was closed off. But now is a different time.” She said she hopes Kourtney “finds peace.”
