The cast of “Vampire Academy” have spent more than seven months bonding and galavanting around Spain, filming the new series Peacock.

“It was an amazing experience,” says Daniela Nieves, who plays Lissa Dragomir.

“I thought, ‘Pfft, yeah let’s go to Spain! I want to go there, ”continues 25-year-old Nieves.

“There were times where I just looked around and said,“ Oh my God, this is my life. … I’m in Spain and I’m making a series based on books that are read by millions of people. … It’s just honorable.

Nieves says they filmed in places like Madrid and Barcelona, but most of the show, according to the cast, was shot in Pamplona.

“Pamplona was a special place,” Kieron Moore, who plays Dimitri Belikov, tells us, adding that he was packing his swimming trunks when he learned that the city was not near the ocean.

Canadian actor André Dae Kim (Christian Ozera) and Los Angeles-born Andrew Liner (Mason Ashford) reiterate that they were lucky to be able to live abroad.

“Being a kid from Los Angeles and then going to Spain … it was a really special experience for me, so sometimes I don’t even think it’s true,” says 21-year-old Liner.

“There is a lot to do in Pamplona, but other times there is not much to do,” Jonetta Kaiser, who plays Sonya Karp, tells us. “So as a cast we really got hooked because we went to dinner together, we went to each other’s place, we played cards and stuff like that. We were really close. We all miss each other so much.

Meanwhile, J. August Richards (Victor Dashkov) says the journey has brought him back to his family roots.

“I learned a lot about myself because my family is from Panama and I grew up in a Spanish-speaking household so it was an opportunity for me to dust off my Spanish and it was a real journey for me,” he explains. “It was certainly a one-of-a-kind experience.”

“Vampire Academy” – which follows royal vampire Lissa and her best friend, babysitter Rose, while training for upcoming roles in society – premieres on September 15 in Peacock.
