The Diddy indictment appears and prosecutors prepare to appear before a grand jury
A new report shows that federal prosecutors are preparing to bring Sean “Diddy” Combs’ accusers to a grand jury, indicating that the U.S. Department of Justice is moving toward an indictment against the music mogul.
Witnesses were notified by investigators that they may be called to testify before a federal grand jury in New York, source: he told CNN Wednesday.
The founder of Bad Boy Records faced eight civil lawsuits, seven of which accused him of sexual assault. His on-again, off-again girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, first accused him of rape and repeated physical abuse in a disturbing lawsuit filed in November 2023.
A second source told the outlet that investigators are thorough and taking their time to make sure a potential indictment is “bulletproof.”
A spokesman for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) declined to comment to CNN on the existence of a grand jury, but noted that the agency’s investigation is ongoing. Combs’ attorney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The rapper (54) and Ventura (37) reached an out-of-court settlement within one day of filing the lawsuit, but earlier this month surveillance footage was leaked showing him brutally beating her in a hotel corridor in 2016.
In the video, the “Me & U” singer can be seen leaving her hotel room with several bags and quickly walking to the elevators. He is wearing a black hoodie, jeans and sneakers. Shortly after, her then-boyfriend appears in just a towel and runs towards her. He grabs her by the neck and kicks her as she lies on the floor.
Ventura first addressed the shocking footage last week, writing on Instagram: “Thank you for all the love and support from my family, friends, strangers and those I haven’t met yet. The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe, but this is just the beginning.”
She continued: “Domestic violence is the BEST problem. It made me become someone I never thought I would become.
The R&B artist told her fans that she remains on a “healing journey.”
Combs, for his part, issued an apology in the days after the terrifying video hit the Internet, calling the event one of the “darkest times” of his life.
“I was screwed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I’m not making excuses,” he shared on social media.
“My behavior while watching this video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in this video. I’m disgusted.”
However, before the surveillance footage was released, Combs strongly denied Ventura’s allegations of molestation and rape, calling them “offensive and outrageous.”
The Department of Homeland Security raided Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami in March on allegations of sex trafficking, money laundering and illegal drugs.
