Storyline
In the present day, Nambi discusses the events that led to his fame as an eminent engineer, as well as the alleged spy charges, physical and mental cruelty against him, in an interview with movie stars Shah Rukh Khan (Hindi and English) / Suriya (Tamil) via a television channel. Nambi walks through the series of events starting with the beginning of his career.
Nambi begins his story with his time spent in the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station. While there, he was able to prevent one of his teammates, APJ Abdul Kalam, from being seriously injured while working on an experiment. In 1969 he was admitted to the prestigious Princeton University in the United States.
Nambi gets a pass in the chemical rocket propulsion section of his Master of Science in Engineering and receives a recommendation from his professor Luigi Crocco for the NASA fellowship. On the other hand, after a short tenure at NASA with Barry Amaldev, he is offered a large income in addition to additional allowances. He decides against it and goes back to India to put his skills to use at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). He then manages to acquire 400 million pounds of equipment from Scotland without paying for it. However, after the mysterious death of Vikram Sarabhai, he was unable to continue his investigation as he did not receive adequate support from ISRO or Indian government finances.
Right now, Nambi is making a deal with the French, who need experienced scientists to help them build their own liquid fuel engine. He and his colleagues then move to France expecting to extract knowledge from France’s advanced technologies and bring that expertise back to India. Unbeknownst to the French, Nambi and his 52 fellow travelers have studied the language in preparation for their journey, but they pretend not to understand the French. Nambi’s team tries to find a way to access these meetings and test data after being banned from their important conversations for an extended period of time. Then they realize that the engine used in France is not working properly. Nambi takes this opportunity by offering to repair the engine in exchange for access to the necessary data. The crew will then return to India to continue developing their own engine that runs on liquid fuels. However, because there are not enough resources, it will take another 8 years before it is ready. The engine is tested at the same test center in France; the results show it reaches a pressure of over 135 and all the way up to 180. Nambi’s preparations prove successful, and he eventually comes back to India, where he honors his guide Vikram Sarabhai by naming the motorbike VIKAS after him.
Nambi is currently focusing its efforts on cryogenic engines, which he believes will equip India with the necessary capabilities to compete in the global satellite industry. Nambi makes the decision to buy these engines from a number of other countries after realizing the limitations ISRO faces both in terms of time and resources. After learning about the Russian (then USSR) cryogenic missiles from his Russian friend in Princeton, he notifies the Russian government of this information and then negotiates a deal with them. He asks to take four of them to the country of India. After the Russians agree to the terms of the pact, the Americans find out and immediately begin to undermine it. Nambi and his colleagues were able to expedite the handover process with the help of the Russians and remove a few engines from under the noses of the Americans as the USSR was about to collapse.
Back in India, Nambi is taken into custody for no apparent reason, as word of his betrayal spreads like wildfire. He is then transported to a guest house in Trivandrum, where he is attacked and tortured in an attempt to get a confession from him about the alleged atrocities he has committed. In addition, he is aware that the authorities are trying to get him to repeat what they have said to him and that there is a recording device in the room to capture this interaction. Nambi, on the other hand, seems unfazed by the accusations and maintains his innocence. It was reported that Nambi met Mariam, a woman from the Maldives, at a hotel in Chennai. After falling prey to Mariam’s ruse, he was said to have been forced to sell India’s missile secrets to Pakistan. After sustaining injuries that required hospitalization, Nambi is visited by CBI officer Nair, who conducts an extensive investigation into the incident. Mariam and her companion are among the people Nair invites into the room. There are also a few more people. Mariam and her boyfriend claim that the officer in charge of the investigation in Kerala, named Gopal, assaulted them physically and psychologically, as well as threats, to force them to falsely accuse Nambi, a person they have never met. They apologize to Nambi for tarnishing his reputation and forcing him and his family to suffer as a result of their actions. Nair also discovers that all the accused in this case were members of ISRO’s cryogenic wing, and as a result comes to the conclusion that it was a huge plot by some influential parties to block India’s progress in the cryogenic sector.
After several months, Nambi is released on bail and goes home, where he discovers that his relatives have been traumatized by the way other people have treated them. Meena, Nambi’s wife, is in desperate need of mental help and the community continues to look down on the rest of Nambi’s family. As a result, Nambi comes to the conclusion that he needs to clear his criminal record to ensure that his family can lead a normal life in the future. After some time, the Supreme Court had issued a ruling confirming Nambi’s innocence. He then went back to ISRO to assist his former colleagues in the Mangalyaan mission. After some time, Nambi is recognized for his contributions to Indian Space Research with the Padma Bhushan Prize.
