The Queen would “never believe” the number of mourners
Prince William is amazed at the endless lines of people waiting to pay tribute to the Queen.
On Saturday, the heir to the throne joined his father, King Charles III, for a walk, welcoming the mourners lining up outside Westminster Hall.
He shared that it was “quite emotional” seeing the sheer number of people waiting to see the queen’s coffin.
“She would never have believed it,” said the Prince of Wales to kindly kind grandmothers. “It seems to unite everyone and unites everyone” reported The Telegraph.
William also added that he hopes people will make “friends for life” by waiting in line for hours.
He spent his time talking, shaking hundreds of hands, and was overheard telling people over and over that he hoped they weren’t too cold or tired.
“It means a lot you’re here, really,” he said. “You’re doing an amazing job.”
Shortly after noon, the royal father and son unexpectedly greeted the mourners, delighting the crowd, some of which burst into tears. People rushed to the metal railings, wanting to exchange a few words with the king or heir, or perhaps shake their hands.
Williams also dropped by at Lambeth’s headquarters, where he spoke to two policemen, thanking them for their service, before driving away in the same car as his father.
The father of three was open to mourners, expressing his feelings and emotions.
Earlier this week, he told the benevolent gentleman that his grandmother’s march on Wednesday “brought back memories” of being behind his mother, Princess Diana’s coffin at her 1997 funeral.
He confessed that it was “very difficult” when talking to the emotional mourner and added poignantly, “Don’t cry now, you’ll start me.”
William tweeted an emotional message last week mourning the loss of his grandmother who died after her historic 70-year reign on Thursday, September 8. She was 96 years old.
“On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader whose devotion to the country, kingdoms and the Commonwealth was absolute. So much will be said in the coming days about the importance of her historic reign, ”William said in a statement posted via Twitter on Saturday.
“But I lost my grandmother. And although I will mourn her loss, I feel incredibly grateful too. I have benefited from the Queen’s wisdom and encouragement in my fifth decade.
William added, “She was there for me in my happiest times. And she was with me in the saddest days of my life. I knew that day would come, but it will be a while before the reality of life without grandma really becomes real.
