The breakdown occurred after one of the main power plants could not be brought back online.

The typhoon, which made landfall on Monday evening, also led to the death of one individual, while structures were damaged across the country.

In the meantime, Ian, with wind speeds of up to 195 km/h, is currently very large in Florida, according to the US Public Tropical storm Community’s (NHC) latest update on Tuesday evening.

It is expected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast late Wednesday, the BBC quoted the NHC as saying.

Middle added that Ian could become a category four hurricane when it hits Florida’s west coast, for some of the 2.5 million individuals in the state under evacuation orders.
