The Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen Foundation gave less than 0.1% of its wealth to charity between 2007 and 2019

The future of the charity founded by Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen hangs in the balance after the legendary quarterback and supermodel finalized their divorce and split their assets worth an estimated $770 million last month.

But the Luz Foundation, a Nassau County-based nonprofit, has made relatively small grants to other groups since its inception in 2007, according to public records.

In 2018, she donated $300 to support Waterkeeper Nicoya Peninsula, an environmental group in Costa Rica where the couple owned a beach house. That same year, she donated $900 to the World Wildlife Fund and $1,000 to the Challenged Athletes Foundation, a charity that helps people with physical disabilities, according to tax returns.

Most of the Luz Foundation’s donations went to yoga and meditation groups. In 2019, the last year for which documents were made available, the Luz Foundation donated $80,000 from its $350,000 budget to the Pointing Out the Great Way Foundation, a Massachusetts-based charity that promotes Indo-Tibetan meditation.

In 2017, the group donated $25,000 to the David Lynch Foundation, a New York-based group that promotes meditation and yoga in schools. You Go Girl Yoga, a Waltham mass group, also received $25,000 this year.

Between 2007 and 2019, the Luz Foundation donated a total of $640,402 to various groups, which translates to 0.00008 percent of the pair’s total net worth.

Bündchen, 42, said she founded the Luz Foundation in 2007 to provide scholarships and support to young girls. The group, which is based in Great Neck, received an IRS tax exemption three years later.

“My life is dedicated to it,” Bündchen told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2015. “I know from the outside that people think, ‘This girl is just posing for pictures.’ But in my head I keep thinking, “Okay, if I take this job, I can put more money into it.” [project]’ So that’s what I do because that’s what it is [why] God gave me to do what I can do, right?

The Luz Foundation has Bündchen, ex-husband Brady and Peter Mattoon on its board of directors. Mattoon, a financier, is one of the few business managers to assist Brady in his investments and entrepreneurial endeavors. in 2021 Mattoon bought the couple’s Boston apartment for $9.2 million.

Bündchen, who has contributed to environmental efforts in her native Brazil, served on the Rainforest Alliance board of directors for two years in 2014-2015. During these years, the Luz Foundation donated $48,000 in 2014 and $25,000 the following year to an environmental charity.

Bündchen and Brady also made headlines at the height of the pandemic when they donated 750,000 meals to Feeding Tampa Bay in 2020. The donation coincided with the legendary quarterback joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March this year.

Recently, Bündchen was named director of environmental and social initiatives at FTX, a bankrupt cryptocurrency empire founded by Sam Bankman-Fried that is reportedly short of about $1 billion in customer funds. Bündchen and Brady are investors and have promoted FTX in advertisements and interviews. In April, Bündchen announced Bankman-Fried’s pledge to donate $1 billion to charity over the next year.

“Whenever someone is willing to commit to change, I’m ready to help,” Bündchen said in an interview with Vogue magazine during a cryptocurrency conference in the Bahamas in April. “Sam is making a very important statement this way, and I found it inspiring.”

Both Bündchen and her former NFL quarterbacks and other high-profile sponsors of FTX are now being sued by investors who lost money in the bankruptcy of a cryptocurrency empire that was reportedly worth more than $32 billion.

In addition to the Luz Foundation, Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, runs his own charity, the TB12 Foundation, which works to “inspire” and help athletes by providing access to “innovative health and wellness resources.” Public records.

But the charity supports his own for-profit company, according to everyday beast. The outlet said that since the charity’s founding in 2015, the foundation has paid the likewise-named for-profit Brady’s, TB12 LLC, over $1.6 million as its largest single contractor. Both Brady, who is listed as the charity’s president, and Jeffrey Surette, the group treasurer, hold executive positions at TB12 LLC, according to public records.
