Tony Dungy is a sports commentator. Neither he nor anyone in his family had been told they had cancer. But there are rumors that Dungy is sick and sick.

The manager of the medical examiner’s office, Dick Bailey, said the autopsy was not immediately performed because James Dungy’s family wanted his organs and tissues donated.

In 2002, Dungy took over as head coach of the Colts. From 1992 to 1995, he was an assistant coach for the Minnesota Vikings. From 1996 to 2001, he was the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Early years

Dungy was born and raised in Jackson, Michigan. His parents were Wilbur Dungy, who taught science at Jackson College from 1926 to 2004, and Cleomae Dungy, who taught Shakespeare at Jackson High School from 1920 to 2002. Wilbur was a pilot in the Army Air Forces with the famous who were Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. After he graduated from Parkside High School in 1973, Dungy went to college at the University of Minnesota to play football. In 1975 and 1976, he was the most important quarterback for the Gophers. NFL career

Dungy and his defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, installed a Cover 2 defense with some changes. The result was the now famous Tampa 2, but Dungy freely admits it was based on ideas he learned in Pittsburgh.

1998–2001

The Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXXVII the following season, their first time in the championship game. Even though Dungy was fired and replaced by Jon Gruden last season, he was given credit for building the team.

Indianapolis Colts

On January 22, 2002, the Indianapolis Colts hired Dungy as their head coach. At the time, the Colts were a very good offensive team but had a very bad defense. He immediately instituted his “Tampa 2” defense and continued to make changes to the Colts’ defense to fit his style. After joining the Colts, Dungy didn’t change much about Jim Mora’s high-powered offense, both in terms of how it was played and who was with it. Tom Moore, still the offensive coordinator, was brought back with Dungy. Moore and Dungy worked together in the past in Minnesota and Pittsburgh.

In his early years with the Colts, Dungy struggled to fix their defense and had mixed results in the playoffs. In his first year as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, the team was shut out 41–0 by the New York Jets in a first-round playoff game. In 2003 and 2004, the Colts also lost playoff games to the New England Patriots (in the second round of the playoffs). In October 2005, Dungy signed a new three-year contract that paid him $5 million per year.

The Colts’ defense played better in the 2006 playoffs. They beat the Kansas City Chiefs, held one of the NFL’s best running backs to less than 50 yards, and beat the Baltimore Ravens, who were favorites, in the divisional round. On January 21, 2007, the Colts defeated the New England Patriots to become the AFC Champions and advance to Super Bowl XLI. It was the largest comeback in conference championship game history, as they fell to 21–3 at the time.
