Turn on network discovery in Windows 11
Overview and work on network discovery
In this state, a Windows device discovers other connected devices and makes it discoverable on a network.
Off: A Windows device will not be seen or discovered by other networked devices in this state.
Custom: In this mode, additional devices can see or detect a Windows device, but other Windows Firewall settings are adjusted to improve discoverability.
Network discovery searches the network for all accessible IP addresses. These IP addresses can be static, dynamic, reserved, or other rearranged abandoned IP addresses. Network discovery ensures that each IP address assigned is valid and not misused.
Use of Network Discovery
The purpose of network discovery is to provide a unified network map that improves the visibility of devices connected to the network. This functionality isn’t just for businesses with dozens of connected devices; It can also be effectively used by individuals for their home appliances.
Network discovery is useful for IT teams who deal with an influx of personal devices on a daily basis as organizations have different devices connected to the same network. It gives IT professionals more network control and monitors devices with open ports.
