Background
Brown was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Jamaican parents. When he was young, his mother was exiled, so he and his father moved to Spanish Town, Jamaica, with his mother. His father was given two life sentences in prison, so he was incarcerated for most of Randy’s life. [8] Randy returned to the US when he was 16. He attended Jamaica High School. He started boxing in 2005 and switched to mixed martial arts when he was 19. He had six fights as an amateur before turning pro in 2014.
Starting a job
Brown began fighting professionally at Ring of Combat 48 in 2014. This was his first fight as a pro. Brown defeated Steve Tyrrell by submitting him in the first round. He trains at the Budokan Martial Arts Academy, which is linked to Renzo Gracie BJJ.
Battle Ring
Brown fought six times for the promotion and won them all by knockout in the first or second round. He defeated Mike Winters by TKO in the second round to win the Ring of Combat welterweight belt.
Final Fight Championship
Brown knocked out Robert Plotkin at Ring of Combat 53. This was shown on Dana White’s Looking For A Fight. Soon after, he was signed by the UFC.
Brown’s first fight was on January 30, 2016, at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Bader. It was against Matt Dwyer.
All the judges agreed that Brown won the fight.
Brown fought Michael Graves at UFC on Fox 19 on April 16, 2016. He submitted in the second round and lost the fight.
Brown returned to fight Erick Montao at UFC Fight Night 94 on September 17, 2016. In the third round, he defeated his opponent by submission.
On December 9, 2016, at UFC Fight Night 102, Brown was scheduled to fight Charlie Ward, who had never fought before.
But Ward had to pull out of the event in early November because he was having trouble getting a visa, so Brian Camozzi, another newcomer, took his place. In the second round, Brown knocked out his opponent by TKO.
Brown was scheduled to fight George Sullivan at UFC 208 on February 11, 2017. But on January 26, Sullivan was pulled from the card after USADA told them that an out-of-competition sample taken earlier this year may have a sign of a doping violation. Belal Muhammad took over the latter. Brown lost the match by vote of all the judges.
Brown fought Mickey Gall at UFC 217 on November 4, 2017.
Brown fought Niko Price at UFC Fight Night 133 on July 14, 2018. He lost the fight when Price hit him with several hammer blows from the ground and knocked him out in the second round.
Brown was supposed to fight Chance Rencountre at UFC Fight Night 143 on January 19, 2019. But Brown pulled out of the fight in early January for unknown reasons.
Brown fought Bryan Barberena at UFC Fight Night 154 on June 22, 2019. In the third round, he knocked out his opponent by TKO.
Brown fought Warlley Alves on November 16, 2019, at UFC Fight Night 164. In the second round, he used a triangle choke to win the fight. He earned the Performance of the Night award for this win.
Brown is set to fight Vicente Luque at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris on April 11, 2020. The event had to be moved due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Luque’s fight touched off and took place at UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan on August 1, 2020. Brown was knocked out in the second round of the fight.
Brown was supposed to fight Alex Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 186 on February 27, 2021. But Brown pulled out of the fight a week before the event for reasons that are unclear. The fight was moved, and they ended up fighting at UFC 261 on April 24, 2021. Brown won the fight in the first round with a one-armed rear naked choke.
Brown fights Jared Gooden at UFC Fight Night 194 on October 9, 2021.
At the weigh-in, Gooden weighed in at 174 pounds, three pounds more than the limit for non-title welterweight fights. The match went down to a catchweight fight. Gooden had to pay a fine of 20% of his money, which was given to Brown. Everyone agreed that he won the fight.
Brown fights Khaos Williams at UFC 274 on May 7, 2022.
He won the fight by a close decision.
Brown will likely face Francisco Trinaldo at UFC Fight Night 211 on October 1, 2022.
