The arrest of Megan Joyce Mohn, 40, on January 11 was caught on camera August 11 by the Salt Lake City Police Department. A coroner determined that Mohn’s death, which occurred 19 days after his arrest, was a homicide.
According to Fox News, the Salt Lake City police’s handling of the arrest, which many have cited as an example of police brutality, led the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner to conclude the death may have been homicide.
The angry woman could be heard pleading with arresting officers and expressing her fear throughout the arrest.
She remarked:
“I don’t want to die, please.”
The Salt Lake City Police Department released footage of three bodycams worn by responding officers amid mounting public criticism of the arrest. The investigation into Mohn’s death is still open.

According to The Independent, the Salt Lake City Police Department received a report that at 3:13 a.m. on Jan. 11, Megan Joyce Mohn was walking around with a rebar. She was later found to be in possession of spices and methamphetamine.
Mohn tells officers in the video that her ID has been stolen when they are heard asking for her ID. She then asks the authorities for water, but they refuse. Salt Lake City Police Department Chief Chris Burbank objected to the decision to cut off her backpack at the end.
He explained:
“What gave you the right to tamper with someone else’s property? There is no legal authority that would allow them to damage their property.
She struggles with the officers for about three minutes before they are able to arrest her. The officer then handcuffed her feet. Upon arrival at the hospital, Mohn was found to be in critical condition. Burbank claimed police overreacted in using force.
In the end, the interaction with (the responding officer) resulted in the woman’s death.
Burbank went on to say
“We have to think about our purpose for being there. How come we are there? Why does it have to be done? It wasn’t in this situation.
Adrian Lambrinos, an anti-police brutality advocate and spokeswoman for the Salt Lake City chapter of the Socialism and Liberation Party, issued a formal statement criticizing the responding officers’ actions.
He explained:
It’s disgusting. While that disgusts us, it doesn’t surprise us either.”
Lambrinos went on to say
“What we see in the video is that they are already trying to find justification for their arrest by obtaining identification upon arrival. Instead of helping the woman, they care more about it.
Chief Burbank believes it was a department failure that it took so long to launch an investigation.
