The man accused of breaking into an FBI office in Cincinnati, Ricky Walter Shiffer, was shot dead in a Clinton County corn field on August 11 while being guarded by agents from the FBI and the Ohio Highway State Patrol.
Shiffer, who attempted to bypass security at the FBI Disciplinary Office on Thursday, shot police with a nail gun and pointed a gun before fleeing.
Shiffer reportedly praised and claimed participation in the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol Complex, but was never arrested on any charges related to that attack, according to a relatively small number of sources.
Shiffer reportedly denounced the FBI’s raid on Trump’s home before Thursday’s incident and posted numerous calls to action on Truth Social, a social media platform founded by Trump.
A detailed look at the Ricky Walter Shiffer incident
Around 9 a.m. Thursday, Shiffer reportedly attempted to enter the controlled area of the Cincinnati FBI Disciplinary Office while being protected by officers. He has also been observed wearing body armor while carrying an AR-15 rifle, nail gun, and other weapons.
He then began driving down Interstate 71 in a Ford Crown Victoria. According to the State Highway Patrol, shots were fired from his car and he was followed on 1-71 before turning onto State Route 73 and stopping on Smith Road, where he opened fire on police.
During the six-hour standoff that followed, authorities used non-lethal techniques to deter Shiffer and begin negotiations with him. Despite this, he resisted and at 15:45 he was killed in the lead.
Experience shows that Clinton County Emergency Management issued a lockdown order on every business within a mile of the incident and ordered everyone inside to stay put.
Previous bills toward Shiffer
In Franklin County, Ohio, Ricky Walter Shiffer received two fines in 2013: one for haste and the other for disobeying a stop sign.
Citations from there place him at the 700 block of Sullivant Avenue in Franklinton and at the 500 block of Chilcote Avenue in the University District.
