Michael Keaton’s speech was censored after he cheerfully told his “true believers” “Fuck I Love You” when he picked up the award for Best Leading Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology for his performance in Hulu’s Dopesick.

Keaton – who played the doctor in the eight-episode drama about the escalating opiate crisis, focusing on Purdue Pharma, the company that produced OxyContin – was the first actor to come on stage to receive an award for his work.

The 71-year-old actor started his speech by pointing out that as a child he often recreated television scenes that he watched for his family.

“My parents and my brothers and sisters watched me through the window,” he recalled.

“And to this day they have never been degrading. They have never (been) disrespectful. They never looked down on it. They never made fun of me. In fact, they asked me to recreate scenes for them. “

He continued, thanking “all the people in my family that they never made me feel stupid because I did it several times myself.”

“Beetlejuice” continued shouting “doubt,” saying, “Over the years we have all gone through many difficult times. There were a few doubters. I’ve had a few doubters. You know what? Everything is fine with us. But over the years, I’ve also had these people who were true believers. I fucking love you.

“Dopesick,” Keaton’s first TV series role, was very personal to the actor.

He previously explained that one of his nephews, also named Michael, died in 2016 from an accidental overdose of heroin and fentanyl.
