Rapper Kanye West released a pretty mysterious message on Friday, August 12, targeting “children” and “homeless people.” However, a TMZ article claims that LA Mission, a charitable organization, is angry with West for breaking his promises to help the poor.
While it’s unclear what West’s most recent post was trying to say, it revives conversations about his commitments to help the charity and the homeless find work, housing and education.
West posted a photo of a poster that read:
“Think of the young people. Look at the street people. the main source of inspiration for any design.”
What is known about Kanye West’s participation in the Los Angeles homeless shelter
Earlier, on Thanksgiving, Kanye West served 1,000 meals to the homeless population of Los Angeles. According to TMZ, West met in November with Pastor Troy Vaughn, CEO of the Los Angeles Mission, to discuss strategies to tackle the city’s homelessness problem.
Pastor Vaughn thanked the rapper on Twitter for “showing his compassion and charity to the needy” by handing out food on Thanksgiving.
According to TMZ, the rapper made a proposal to provide food to homeless people and help them find “education, work and housing”. His mission was to “end the circle of homelessness and poverty by stabilizing people in a safe and spiritual environment, connecting them to solutions and accompanying them on their journey.”
In addition, he had planned to take Sunday service to Los Angeles’ Skid Row one more time, believing it would elevate and heal the neighborhood. In 2019, he held a Sunday service at the Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row.
West spoke about the importance of following Jesus Christ and his desire to reunite his family, including Kim Kardashian and his children North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm, at the event to feed the poor. He noted:
“I am the pastor of my family. I have a house adjacent to the house so that while I am not at home I can be as close as possible to my children. I do everything I can to be there immediately.”
Kanye West has also built prototypes of his YZY shelters, which provided low-cost housing to homeless people. However, the buildings were apparently demolished because the rapper did not have the necessary building permits.
Learn about Kanye West’s pledges to end hunger and homelessness
Kanye West pledged to solve hunger and homelessness across the country when he ran for president in 2020. He wrote multiple tweets about it on social media. He claimed:
“We will eliminate hunger. In parking lots there are people sleeping… We will recover as people. We ensure that each other’s safety is guaranteed.
The rapper continued by saying:
“Someone I spoke to recently revealed that they had been homeless at some point in their lives. Hunger and homelessness must be eliminated, and we will. Our species is capable of that.
Kanye West expressed his calling to be a “leader of the free world” in a conversation with comedian and TV personality Joe Rogan, which he later used in one of his presidential election campaign videos.
“There has never been a better time to appoint a visionary as captain… I consider it my destiny to lead the free world.
After the most recent Instagram post, nothing about Kanye West’s involvement in the fight against hunger and homelessness has been posted on his official account.
