Avis was not happy with the way authorities were handling the situation and she expressed her dissatisfaction by saying: “We were disappointed in the legal system, we were disappointed that those in charge didn’t read evidence to them, we were disappointed that the Henderson Police Department did not investigate and the Clark County Coroner’s Office simply accepted what Brent told them. Because of this, the family decided to investigate the matter, using the services of a private detective, as well as a lawyer.

In addition, the couple stated that Susan had not shown any suicidal thoughts in the weeks leading up to her death and that she appeared to be in high spirits during her trip to Oklahoma in December 2014. Additionally, the parents claimed that she was looking forward to a hectic 2015 and had planned to take trips to see their youngest daughter at cheerleading events. Not only that, but Susan was overjoyed that her older daughter would soon be attending college.

This led to the discovery of a significant body of new evidence, all pointing to Gregory’s involvement in Susan’s death. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that he had a drug problem and that he had lied about his whereabouts on the night of the incident.
