At the time, Jerold was away on a trip, so Kym was left alone with her daughter.
After the authorities became involved, Kim was ordered to call Jerold in an effort to force Jerold to confess to the actions for which he was charged. In that phone call, he offered her money and claimed responsibility for some of the work. Kym agrees to meet, but it turns out the authorities are waiting for her. Jerold was taken into custody but later released after posting bond. On the other hand, when the time came for his trial in January 1999, he was nowhere to be seen and never showed up.

Where Is Jerold Dunning Now?
Kym has an idea that Jerold may be in the same location as his mother, Camden. He then went to Maryville, Tennessee, after paying his bond. In that area, Kym discovers that someone named CJ Dunning is renting an apartment. Neighbors who knew Jerold reported hearing him call himself Chester, which is his middle name. According to reports, Jerold worked as a driver for a seafood delivery service. After that, the FBI got involved, and in 2004, they charged him with unauthorized flight in an attempt to avoid prosecution.
However, according to the episode, authorities suspect that Jerold was tipped off by someone because he had already left Maryville when federal officials arrived. Since then, law enforcement officials have not given up on the search for him, even as he continues to elude capture.
