The attackers were found to be part of an inside job not long after police made the find. But what was truly heroic was the way his wife, Charleen Gonzalez, fought for her life and called the police by hiding in the toilet and locking herself in from the inside. Who is Charleen Gonzalez?

On November 15, 2008, Charleen Chuke Gonzalez and Dr. Jorge Mario Gonzalez Zamora exchanged vows at the family property in Bellville, Texas. There the ceremony took place. She had already given birth to their first child, a son named Mario Raphael Gonzalez, when she found out she was pregnant with their second child. The due date was February 17, 2010, which was also the treating physician’s 57th birthday. However, a sad theft plotted by their rancher, Noel Galvan-Cerna, would lead to the doctor being killed and he would never see his second child again in his entire life.

On August 22, 2009, an Austin County dispatcher received a call from Charleen who called 911. While she was crying on the phone, the dispatcher heard gunshots in the background. She was able to pronounce the words: “There are some boys in our house! They are being shot at by my husband! In addition, she stated: “My husband… oh Lord! My son of just a year and a half plays outside. Oh my god, I think I just heard my husband. After receiving the call, the police arrived at the crime scene within minutes and found that Jorge had been fatally shot, Noel had been injured by being shot in the arm and Raphael was crying. While the other two stood on the porch, the doctor lay lifeless on the floor.

As soon as they entered the house, the officers heard Charleen screaming from the bathroom. After the terrified mother and her sobbing child were reunited, the police gave her the news that her husband had been murdered. She thought about the situation and said, “The cop who walked with me told me Mario didn’t make it.” And at that moment my knees just gave out and he lifted me up. After they left their home in Houston, Charleen described to the officers how she and her husband had traveled to their ranch at about 11:45 a.m.

Charleen was unpacking the suitcase while Noel and Raphael played outside and Jorge went inside. She described seeing the attackers, saying, “I turned to the right and I see this man, he’s dressed all in black with a mask, and he started coming towards me.” She went on to describe how she fended off the attackers. I screamed and my body actually took me to the house when I got there. While her husband continued to fight the attackers with his gun, she barricaded herself in the toilet with her phone and hid there until her husband returned. She remembered that much later and said, “After some gunshots, everything went quiet.” And suddenly two men in masks were standing in the room, staring at me.

“Then I realized that I would probably die that day,” Charleen continued. At exactly the same time as the previous event, an attempt was made to open the toilet door. And I used all my energy to keep him from going to the bathroom. She couldn’t keep it closed. She went on to say, “He did open that door and he shoved a gun in my face, and…I believe he’s out of ammo at this point. And he just left. At the same time I looked out the window and suddenly saw the boys who were there running away.”

Where can I find Charleen Gonzalez at this hour?

Charleen also gave authorities information about Noel’s employment history with the family. She went on to explain that he was their family’s nanny, Esperanza’s son, and that he took her to work every day. In 2008, Jorge extended the young man a job at the ranch. She added: “When I first met Esperanza she seemed extremely nice and sweet, and she was a little shy. She was doing great and Baby Mario seemed to really like her. Charleen said the following about Noel when he he was asked, “Noel was a pretty awesome kid and we considered him family.”

Charleen was present throughout the trial, with two of the defendants found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole. In February 2010, she gave birth to her second child, a son named Giovanni. She is now known by her newly married name, Charleen Gonzalez Burleson, after recently going through another marriage. Charleen, for understandable reasons, has decided to keep her personal life from the public, including her whereabouts. On the other hand, it is very likely that she will still remain in Texas.
