The exciting reality show “Drink Masters” on Netflix is a competition to find the best mixologist in the United States and Canada.
It gathers some of the best people in the industry and goes through a series of tests, each more difficult than the next. Since the competition standard is quite high there is no room for error as after each challenge one person is eliminated for not meeting the standard. At the end of the season, the top three contestants will compete for a big cash prize and the coveted title of Drink Master.
From the start, it looked like Montrealer Tao Zrafi would be a good contender. Tao has a lot of experience in making cocktails and other drinks, but he likes to put his own spin on it, which impressed the judges. But now that the cameras have been turned off, fans want to know where Tao is. Don’t worry, we have answers for you!
Drink Masters Journey by Tao Zrafi
You might be surprised to learn that bartending or cocktail making wasn’t Tao Zrafi’s first choice for a job. He was born in Tunisia but became interested in interior design when he was 20. He moved to Canada to take a course in the subject. In the Great White North, Tao realized he needed to make money, so he got a job as a bartender. Sources say the Tunisian man had never tried alcohol until he was 23. After that, he discovered that he liked to make cocktails and realized that this was his true calling in life.
After that, Tao didn’t wait long to change direction, and he wanted to be one of the best. Tao said on the show that he was there to win and that he would only settle for perfection of his own. Most people immediately liked him because he was so nice, and it was nice to see him make friends in the first episode. In the first few challenges, the judges loved what Tao made. He never ended up bottoming out, but he didn’t make anything that really impressed them either.
But once Tao realized he had to get up and perform, he put on his best play and in episode 5 he was declared the winner. Still, the Tunisian didn’t stop there. He continued to deliver great performances and win challenges until the semi-finals. Tao didn’t do very well in the semifinals, so she had to face Suzu in an elimination challenge. Still, he worked hard and eventually made it to the final. He left the show as the third runner-up.

Where is Tao Zrafi right now?
Sources said that when Tao realized how much he loved bartending and making cocktails, he decided to get as much experience as possible. So he worked in many bars in Canada and the US and even took part in a few competitions to get better. Over time, he started to gain prominence in the company and was even featured in a few magazines.
In contrast, the COVID-19 pandemic has closed bars and restaurants across North America. However, Tao did not give up and started working as a consultant in the bartending business. When the rules were less strict, he even set up pop-up stands, making him even more popular. Tao, who calls himself a “genderless fashion icon,” currently lives in Montreal, Canada.
Tao said he likes to travel the world and wouldn’t mind doing his job as a bartender in different places. He also owns Funk Populaire, a bar where he says he only serves “weird stuff.” Witnessing Tao’s fame is inspiring to say the least. Since the Tunisian-born artist said he is “working on the next big thing”, we want to wish him the best of luck with that too.
Tao Zrafi makes drinks, helps bars with their programs and travels the world. If you’ve ever been to a popular cocktail bar in Montreal, chances are you’ve had a drink Tao made. Tao moved from Tunisia to Canada at the age of 20 to study interior design. He wanted to get out of his comfort zone and try something new, so he got a job in a bar. Tao didn’t try alcohol for the first time until he was 23. He soon became interested in mixology and wanted to be the best at what he did. Tao made a name for himself and found his own style by working in various restaurants and bars in North America and entering many competitions. As the pandemic imposed many restrictions on bartenders, Tao decided to focus on consulting, sharing his knowledge, doing pop-up bars, and planning his lifelong goal of opening his own cool bar. Keep your eyes peeled (and your taste buds ready) to see what Tao has now!
If you’re using a protein in a cocktail, make sure to fill up that delicious foam with ingredients that smell strong and tantalizing and make the drink better. While protein cocktails may taste great, they tend to smell like wet dogs after a while. Don’t be afraid to spray something strong, like a strong herbal liqueur or mezcal. Even ground spices can help cover up that smell.
You can always find an “acid solution” at your local grocery store to keep in your fridge for an evening cocktail hour. If you don’t have citrus juice on hand, you can use a mixture of citric and malic acids in plain filtered water. For example: 1000 ml of water + 40 ml of citric acid + 20 ml of malic acid + 5 ml of salt. You can add food grade essences to the sour water to make it taste better and more interesting.
When using carbonated mixers such as The Great Gentleman products with a shake drink, pour the soda on top of the mixed drink in the shaker after shaking. Then pour the mixture into the glass of your choice and add more soda and ice if needed. Also known as a “dirty pour”, this method prevents air bubbles from forming on your drink and ensures that all the ingredients are well mixed.
At Drink Masters, 12 mixologists will compete against each other for a top prize of $100,000 and the first-ever title of “Drink Master.”
The best mixologists in North America were chosen to participate in the show, which was filmed in Canada. In order for these people to win the title, they have to impress Frankie Salorik and Julie Reiner, both well-known in the cocktail world.
