Ferreras was born in Matanzas, which is on the northern coast of Cuba. He started free-diving when he was 5 years old. “Pipin” was his name as a child, and he added “Ferraras” to it as an adult.

Spearfishing, a sport that not many people do, is where he started in the underwater world. Free diving was introduced to Pipin by some Italians who were in Cuba at the time.
