The television show Dateline: House of Horrors on NBC News examines the series of tragic events that led up to the deaths of Nichole Payne and her teenage son Austin Pages in December 2007. Suicide, but authorities were soon able to determine that it had been arranged by Jason Payne, who was Nichole’s husband. Additional suspicions were later raised based on the conversations he had with his mother, Jewel “Faye” Payne, while incarcerated. Who is Jewel “Faye” Payne?

On December 11, 2007, Jason reportedly found Nichole dead from a gunshot wound and called 911 to report his discovery. Both she and Austin were found dead in the garage, with Austin dying from a gunshot wound. She had been shot in the back of the head. As the investigation revealed, it turned out that a huge life insurance policy was Jason’s motivation for killing Nichole. Based on circumstantial evidence pointing in that direction, law enforcement officials concluded that he staged the scene after killing Nichole and Austin.

While Jason was in prison, he was allowed to call his mother, Jewel, and her conversations were monitored and recorded. During one of their conversations, Jason asked his mother a question, inquiring whether or not she kept a pair of identical items in her nightstand drawer. He was careful with his choice of words and instructed them to look for hard plastic items and then destroy them. Jewel remarked, “I’ve got the movie where you’re all in nacogdoches” (Texas). You and Nichole.”

Afterwards, Jason communicated with his mother and said, “You had three tapes. There was one of Nichole and I together, and then there were two that were completely unrelated. After Jewel revealed to him that she had hidden the tapes in the closet, he told her to destroy them by tearing them into pieces and setting them on fire. Later in the episode, Jewel admitted that she lied to her son about where the tapes were and that she never discovered them. She said she did not know what was on them and expressed regret that she did not question her son further on the matter at the time.

Jewel was arrested in October 2016 in connection with the same case as Jason, who was already serving a life sentence for the double murders he committed. She was accused of attempting to tamper with the testimony of a witness. Police were informed by Jewel’s niece that Jewel had once expressed an interest in meeting her and she had agreed to accompany her on a car ride. Their chat was recorded on the niece’s recording device. In it, Jewel discussed finding someone who could make a threat against a paramedic who had visited Nichole and Austin’s crime scene and later testified in court.

Jewel wanted the EMT threatened to retract what she had previously said. In addition, she instructed the niece to check with the EMT if they “have a child or anyone you may threaten to harm.” Not only that, but there were also phone calls between Jason and Jewel discussing seeing the niece. Not only that, there were also phone calls. Jewel reportedly entered a guilty plea to witness tampering in October 2017 and was due to receive 10 years probation for her actions in addition to 500 hours of community service. Since then, Jewel, who is now in her late 70s or early 80s, has shunned the public. It appears that she is based in Logansport, Louisiana, but beyond that, there isn’t much information out there as to what she is currently up to.

Convicted killer’s mother faces charges of attempted witness tampering

Jewel D. Payne is currently being held in the Wood County Jail on $250,000 bail. She is accused of going too far in her desire to protect her children, which led to her arrest. A mother will do almost anything to protect her children.

Jewel Faye Davenport Payne, 73, who lives in Logansport, Louisiana, is the mother of Jason Thad Payne, who was found guilty of first-degree murder in Wood County Circuit Court in March. The trial in this case took place in March. Payne was found guilty of murder in connection with the shooting deaths of his wife Nichole Payne and their son from a previous marriage, Austin Wages, which took place in December 2011. Although an appeal is being prepared for Jason Payne’s case, he is now serving a life sentence in the Stiles unit in Beaumont.

His mother is accused of trying to recruit a relative to find someone to threaten a paramedic who was deployed to the murder scene and testified at the trial this spring. The threat would have been directed at the victim’s mother. On October 6, Jewel Payne was arrested and taken to the Wood County Jail. She is accused of trying to manipulate a witness.

According to an affidavit supporting a finding of probable cause, Jewel Payne contacted her niece prior to one of her visits to her aging parents in Bossier City, Louisiana, and told her she wanted to speak to her. This information was included in the document that established the probable cause. They were going for a car ride and at that point the niece, who had been suspicious about the meeting, recorded an audio recording on the cell phone she was using.

According to the affidavit, Wood County Sheriff’s Department Detective Kyle Henson, who was familiar with Jewel Payne and her voice, listened to the recording of her speaking about the EMT. Jewel Payne was a witness in this case. She stated that when she arrived, the paramedic testified about the condition of the body of one of the victims and that she believed that testimony was relevant to the trial. She also stated that she found the testimony remarkable. The next thing she did was urge the niece to “hire a man who goes to this lady … and scares her.” letting her know you know she lied and trying to intimidate her into retracting her statement. She also reportedly advised the niece to “look inside the lady” before meeting, explaining that “that way you would know if she had a child or someone you could threaten to hurt.”

It also states that Jewel Payne agreed with her niece’s assessment that the actions she was being asked to take constituted illegal activity and that she believed it to be a crime.
On October 6, members of the rs executed a search warrant issued by a district judge in Desoto Parish, Louisiana. The order was received from the judge. Investigators seized a digital recorder and letters from Jason Payne to his mother.

The affidavit filed in support of the search warrant application details Jason Payne’s repeated phone calls to his mother discussing his niece’s visit. According to the complaint, Jewel Payne can be heard on two of the calls saying things like, “I’ll try to … do my best” and “I’ll do what I have to do.”

In a subsequent phone call from Jason Payne, his mother informed him that his niece did not agree to the request and that she would “make things up” and “find someone” to complete the tasks.
