The most recent episode of the show “True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here” on Investigation Discovery informs viewers about the heartbreaking events that took place in the life of a young parent. Christian Griggs was killed by gunfire outside his estranged father-in-law’s home shortly after he got there to pick up his daughter Jaden, who was then 4 years old. Katie Griggs, who was divorced from Christian at the time of the shooting, was present at the residence when the shooting took place. So, in case you were wondering what happened to her, here’s what we know to be the case.
Who is Katie Griggs?
Katie Chisenhall was known as a shy and attractive girl growing up in Angier, North Carolina. Her hometown is Angier. At the age of 29, her father, Pat Chisenhall, began his career as a priest. Katie was the younger of the two children, while her brother Patrick was the older of the two. Katie and Christian started dating shortly after they met at Harnett Central High School in North Carolina. Both schools are located in the state of North Carolina. Katie became pregnant during their senior year and the couple had their daughter Jaden in November 2008, just a few months after graduating from high school.
Although Christian received a full ROTC scholarship to attend North Carolina State University when he first enrolled there, he left school after just a year to join the military so he could care for his daughter. After some time passed, Christian’s parents told me that Katie often accused them of insulting her. The fact that Katie’s parents and Christian’s parents only met four months after the couple’s wedding in January 2009 added to the high tensions between all parties involved. The marriage was not without ups and downs. As part of his military service, Christian was stationed in Iraq, and he returned from that service in August 2011.
Later, Christian and Katie made the decision to buy a house in Harlem, Georgia; however, their time spent there was fraught with numerous challenges. Katie called 911 in May 2012 to report that Christian had locked herself in a room with a gun and feared he would end his own life. When the police arrived, he said the only reason he did it was to scare Katie. The following month, in September 2012, Katie was in Georgia when she called 911 to report that Christian had expressed his intention to commit suicide. He was at the time at his family home in North Carolina, which belonged to his parents. Christian reported to authorities that he had been asleep and had last communicated with Katie a few hours earlier.
The next day she was in Angier when she called 911 again, this time saying that Christian had refused to leave and that they had fought over who would get custody of Jaden. Before deciding to end their relationship for good in 2013, the couple gave their relationship one last shot at success. On October 11, 2013, Christian went to get Jaden, as he did on alternate weekends when he had custody of her. However, an argument broke out between the two of them, and Katie subsequently reported to authorities that Christian had broken a window and broken open an air conditioner. By the evening of the same day, Katie and Pat had issued arrest warrants for Christian on charges of burglary and domestic criminal offences.
On the morning of October 12, 2013, Christian returned to pick up Jaden; however, it is unknown what happened next. Pat reported to authorities that Christian was furious and had made threats against them. Therefore, the pastor ordered his daughter to accompany him to the residence. Then Pat claimed that Christian had started banging on the doors and windows of the house and demanded that Katie be allowed to leave the premises. Katie, who said she had been hiding in a closet before the shooting, contacted 911 and accused Christian of threatening them and breaking into the house. Katie said she hid in the closet before the shooting. Ultimately, Pat claimed to have fired his gun in self-defense when confronted by his estranged son-in-law.

Where can I find Katie Griggs now?
Pat’s version of events is the only one on the public record; The Harnett County, North Carolina court has decided to keep Katie Griggs’ account of what happened confidential. She was present during her father’s culpable homicide lawsuit brought by Christian’s parents. In the end, her father was found civilly guilty of Christian’s death. For now, Katie is the legal guardian of Jaden, who is now a teenager.
Since the year 2018, Katie Griggs has been embroiled in legal wrangling with Christian’s parents over the issue of Christian’s parents’ access to Jaden. Katie later remarried, and in January 2018, she began the legal process necessary for her daughter Jaden to adopt her new husband’s last name. According to the petition she filed, “That’s my married name too and she wants our names to be the same.” According to reports, permission was granted the following month. From what we can determine, she continues to make her home in North Carolina, but she is very quiet about her personal life.
The Cause of Death of Christian Griggs
It was said that Christian Griggs was a handsome young man who was also kind and easily made friends with others. He had a nomadic childhood after being born to parents who served in the military and eventually settled with his family in Angier, North Carolina. There he made the connection that led to his marriage to Katie Chisenhall in January 2009, nearly a year after the couple welcomed Jaden into the world. Before joining the military to support his family and care for his daughter Jaden, Christian was educated at North Carolina State University. After serving for nearly three years, he finally went back to school to study computer engineering.
Despite the fact that Christian and Katie were no longer together at the time of the incident, they shared parental responsibility for their son Jaden. On October 12, 2013, the 23-year-old picked up their daughter by going to Katie’s house. However, after a flurry of activity, Christian’s father, Anthony, aka Tony, discovered his son lying on the porch of Katie’s father’s house. Tony is also Christian’s middle name. A .22 caliber rifle had been used to shoot him six times; once in the left shoulder, once in the abdomen and four times in his back were the locations of the wounds.
