American singer Gladys Knight is a seven-time Grammy Award winner. She is best known for the singles she and her family band, The Pips, released in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
She co-wrote two Billboard Hot 100 hits (“Midnight Train to Georgia” and “That’s What Friends Are For”) with Sir Elton John, Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder, as well as eleven other top R&B singles and six top R&B albums.

Career as a solo musician
While still a member of the Pips, Gladys Knight collaborated with Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder and Elton John on the 1985 AIDS benefit single That’s What Friends Are For. The song became a triple #1 megahit and received the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Gladys Knight won the award.
During the 1986 HBO show Sisters in the Name of Love, Gladys Knight sang alongside Dionne Warwick and Patti LaBelle on the same stage.
