Maslany was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Dan, a woodworker, and Renate, a translator. Her parents are Dan and Renate. She is the older sister of two younger brothers, one of whom is also an actor named Daniel Maslany. Her family tree can be traced back to Austria, Germany, Poland, Romania and Ukraine.
