The path that Marcel took to succeed in this field was not easy. In an interview with Backstage, he said he was homeless when he discovered his first television pilot, “The Mayor,” on ABC, had been picked up for a full season.

He and his girlfriend, Amber, were evicted from their home just days before hearing the good news about The Mayor.

The couple went to the neighborhood housing court and asked for a stay of the eviction when they were unable to come up with the money themselves. They have ten days to do so, according to the court. Two days later, he learned that “The Mayer” had been taken.

He and Amber had enough money to buy him a ticket back to Texas. According to Marcel, the intention is for Amber to stay while she looks for places to stay in Los Angeles.

Unexpectedly, he received a second call from his agency notifying him that Marcel had been cast in the play he had auditioned for in April. Marcel will work the rest of the summer until the end of July if they fly him to La Jolla, California, at the end of May if he accepts.

Marcel finds himself suddenly with two jobs, one that will provide him with housing for the summer and the other that will provide him with the funds to move from New York City to Los Angeles. Before, he had no job, little money, and nowhere to stay.
