Early life
A native of Bellevue, Washington, Donna and Jack Hilty were Hilty’s parents. At the age of 12 she started taking singing lessons because she wanted to sing opera. She first attended the Washington Academy of Performing Arts Conservatory High School in Redmond before transferring to Sammamish High School in Bellevue. She then attended the Chrysalis School in Woodinville.
Hilty received her acting degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2004 and is part of Actors Equity.

Career
Hilty attended a Wicked audition shortly before graduating from Carnegie Mellon University. After graduating, she moved to New York City and made her Broadway debut as a backup on Glinda the Good Witch in August 2004 before taking on Jennifer Laura Thompson on May 31, 2005. Hilty ended her year-long tenure in the role in May. On February 28, 2006, Kate Reinders took her place. From September to December 2006, she reprized the part for the show’s first national tour in place of Kendra Kassebaum. Shortly thereafter, Hilty starred in the Los Angeles Seat production, which opened on February 21, after previews began on February 10 of the same year.
