Israel Houghton was born on May 19, 1971 in Carlsbad, Oceanside, California. The name of his biological father is unknown. Henry Houghton is his stepfather and Margaret Houghton is his mother.
Career
Houghton made the decision in 1989 to focus exclusively on worship. Together with his wife Meleasa and a group of musicians and singers he founded the “New Breed Ministry” in 1995. The main mission of this group was to break down sectarian and cultural barriers. To bring the powerful sound of “Ministry” to churches, the group toured the United States.
He started his recording career in 1997 with the song “Whisper it Loud”. Israel & New Breed released their debut album New Season in 2001. It was also her first album on the Sony label. In 2002 they released the album “Real”, in 2004 “Live from Another Level” came out.
