Lara Dedmon, 54, a member of the Republican Party of Florida, is a registered voter in Florida.

She is a woman who currently resides at 22168 Garmisch Way in Brooksville, Florida and is a registered voter in Hernando County.

She is considered one of the strongest candidates for the Hernando County Board of Supervisors.

Who is Lara Dedmon?

Hernando County School candidate is Lara Dedmon.

She is a talented woman with 14 years of experience working with Hernando County School students and their families. She is a speech therapist who is also a Christian. She makes decisions out of a sense of duty and without regard for political ideologies or personal goals.

She is a fiscal conservative who believes you should live within your means and respect taxpayers’ hard-earned money. In addition to being active for the Gernanda County School Board, she always stands up for the welfare of others and has always been there for them when they needed her.

Lara puts everyone around her first, and she is the most active socialist in her community. She steps forward to deal with the problems that the situation is causing for the people. She has always been a helping hand who stays in the background and jumps forward when needed.

She stated that she is running for the school board because, like many others, she finds the national press coverage of issues such as critical race theory and sex education for children as young as five troubling.

All candidates for the school board are listed on the impartial, democratic and republican ballot papers.

Each voter in the province elects representatives from only one district. The two best votes will win in a runoff on November 8 if no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote in the primary.
Each applicant has a chance to submit a 150-word biography and answer our questions in 850 words. We asked community members to submit questions for the school board candidates, and we told them to pick one to respond to.

It’s extremely challenging to pick just three, given the current state of the Hernando County School District, which is a dumpster fire. Since our current board and their directors have been ignoring a number of important issues for so long, any issue that is currently troubling our district has become urgent and requires immediate treatment.

As a result, the complete lack of institutional accountability within the district, the continued efforts by those currently on the board to indoctrinate and care for our children, and last but not least the disruptive safety and behavior issues we have across the district are experiencing the three main problems facing our schools in Hernando County today, according to my book.

Keep in mind that a host of other issues can be included under institutional responsibility, including employee retention, school overcrowding, transportation, the budget, and many others.

Yes, I agree that there are many causes that require more spending and just as many that require less, if not none, support. This has to do with our current budget problems, with the current school board wasting taxpayers’ money like drunken sailors. Millions of dollars have been spent by our current school board on worthless initiatives supported by teacher unions and other special interest groups.

How would you cover required salary increases, cost of living increases and other inflationary expenses if you were in favor of austerity?

Our budget is currently somewhere over $300 million, and the Hernando County School District uses about 40% of our tax dollars. Unfortunately, our taxes are slipping into the fiscal black hole that is HCSD. As previously mentioned, the school board wastes a significant portion of our tax dollars on union and special interest pet projects, as well as regular bloat and garbage.

Know about three projects

As mentioned, we have many tasks and regions that require prompt attention. The district has been terribly neglected by our current administration.

Currently, I believe that maintaining a functional transport infrastructure is the most critical project. My top priority project would be to fix the bus system that was barely functioning in our neighborhood for the past school year.

School safety is a crucial topic that I have already touched upon; it involves not only improving facilities and purchasing new equipment, but also reviewing current district rules. The lack of control over who is allowed on school grounds has lately been an issue that I find very troubling. Among other things, we currently have a problem with this arrangement in our district.

Last but not least, now that the FSA no longer exists, I think our district should take the lead in bringing back our vocational programs that have been cut, scaled back, or discontinued over the past three decades to make way for test prep affiliated with the FSA. Even while some of these pre-FSA legacy vocational programs, such as shop and FFA, still exist in our district, I think they need to go back to their pre-FSA districtwide status.

Do you support the removal of social and emotional learning, critical race theory, unconscious bias and equality training from teacher training and student educational materials?

Yes. If elected, I would eliminate any curriculum, teaching aids, policies, committees, positions or other practices that aim to indoctrinate or nurture our children with this awake idiocy.

Can you explain some approaches to bridging the performance gap with which you agree or disagree?

Given the severe overcrowding and the teacher and staff retention challenges we now face in our district, we are unable to discuss the specific solutions we can use to reduce the performance gap. Every think tank and school of thought on the performance gap agrees that the number one priority is always to get rid of overcrowding, ensure classes are reasonable, and maintain minimal staff turnover, especially among key employees.

If elected to the board, I will work to use the previously mentioned unused money and get a handle on our budget to tackle the overpopulation in our district. I will try to increase the size of the current campuses and work with my other board members to safely and economically increase our district’s buildings to quickly close this gap along with this underutilized money and functional budget.

Lara Dedmon’s take on COVID-19

In a word, no. In my opinion, the actions of those now on our board to impose a mask mandate on our children, teachers, staff, parents and community members were criminal and in blatant disobedience to Governor DeSantis and the Florida Surgeon General. Since science has shown that cloth and paper masks are totally ineffective at protecting anyone from COVID-19, let alone children, I think the current school administration was primarily driven by political motives rather than sound scientific principles. Because of this, I arrived at the next board meeting in a full biohazard suit. I purposely made the bold decision to wear the suit to fool the council into the fact that at the time, the CDC still considered a self-contained breathing apparatus or biohazard suit as the only viable defense against COVID-19.

She noted, “Florida will be better protected from such threats thanks to the measures that Governor DeSantis wisely passed. However, it is our duty to carry out local follow-ups. She claimed that the country’s low literacy rate and other issues are the reasons why she invests her knowledge, skills and heart in running for the school board. She insisted that she was fiscally conservative and would not allow politics to color her decisions.

She claimed that I live by the same principles in my personal and professional life. Follow your budget. She argues that to prepare students for employment and citizenship, public schools must lay the foundation for reading, writing, math, science, history, government, and economics.

We should always take precautions to ensure items like CRT and other things that are emerging are kept out of our schools, the speaker said.

“Children who lack phonetic skills need to be identified quickly and given one-on-one instruction. While computer programs are great, they should only be used as a supplement. She promised to use tax money responsibly and respectfully.

I will work very hard with schools to ensure that all literacy policies and programs succeed in maintaining our literacy rate, the speaker concluded.

Our eighth-grader scored 46% on the FSA reading test, meaning they failed 54% of the time. However, just over 90% of students complete secondary school. It will take a lot of creative coordination between the board, directors, teachers, speech therapists, reading specialists and parents to even solve this problem. But having worked professionally with children for years helping them develop their reading skills, I know I’m ready for the job.

She would fight for all of these issues as a school board member, including values, vote, fiscal conservatism, and rising literacy rates, to ensure our students graduate with the skills they need to become intellectually and ethically capable members of our community.

Her husband Scott is a native Floridian who was born and raised in Lutz.

He has been a Bay to Bay Balancing AC Technician for over 20 years. He has been coaching girls basketball at the Hernando Christian Academy (and occasionally helping with softball) for the past five years because our daughter has been playing basketball and softball since seventh grade.

He changed careers this year. He not only instructs high school science at HCA, but also coaches the high school baseball team and the girls’ basketball team.
