When a bunch of young boys and their soccer coach became trapped in flooding underground caves, Thailand became the setting for the rescue effort movie Thirteen Lives.

The Real Story Of Thirteen Lives
A true narrative called “Thirteen Lives Moves” was inspired by the 2018 rescue operation that brought two boys soccer players, aged 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach to safety after they became trapped in northern Thailand’s Tham Luang Nang Non-cave.
The film primarily centers on the British divers who helped save the soccer team, particularly Richard Stanton (Viggo Mortensen), John Volanthen (Colin Farrell), and Richard Harris (Joel Edgerton).
The Rescue, a highly regarded National Geographic documentary on the incident, is also based on the true account of the Thai soccer team’s cave rescue.
They were forced deep into the cave’s depths by torrential rain that flooded the cave outlet, trapping them there for more than two weeks. They were also rescued by a group of foreign divers, including two Australians, four British, and five Thai military SEAL divers.
The 12 youngsters and the soccer coach all made it out of the cave unharmed, although one of the divers subsequently perished during an attempted rescue from asphyxiation.
After one year of operation, the operation had claimed two lives when the driver who had saved the diver passed away from a blood illness he had contracted while performing the rescue.
