Who Is “To Accomplish The Impossible” Star Nick Lavery? Meet the Retired Army and Hear Him Discuss His Challenges Nick lost his lower leg in Afghanistan in 2012–2013 after being deployed there. During the “insider attack,” he was hit four times in the right leg while fighting with a PKM machine gun from only 15 feet away. His bravery enabled the unit to rescue all on board and secure the VSP for a medical evacuation without suffering any further casualties. His courageous actions and bravery in the face of danger inspired the VSP members to complete the mission and help save the lives of his comrades. The United States Army, the Special Operations Joint Task Force Afghanistan, the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan, and himself were all commended for his actions, which uphold the highest standards of military valor. Who Is “To Accomplish The Impossible” Star Nick Lavery? Former Special Forces weapons sergeant Nick Lavery has completed the Network Development and Unconventional Warfare Design programs. He is a licensed airborne and combat diver. He holds Special Operations Combatives (SOCP) and Modern Army Combatives (MACP) instructor qualifications. Combat Diver Qualification training, the SOCP Instructor course, and the Special Forces Warrant Officer Technical and Tactical Certification training were successfully completed by Nick, the only amputee in military history. Nick received numerous awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Special Operations Command Excalibur Award, the OSS Society Peter Ortiz Award, three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, a Bronze Star with a “V” for valor, and two Meritorious Service Medals. Nicky Lavery’s Army Life Nick is an active duty Special Forces soldier in the US Army. Special Forces, commonly known as Green Berets, perform important roles such as unconventional warfare, direct action, counterinsurgency, and special reconnaissance. Nick lost his leg in Afghanistan on his second combat deployment in 2013, when his Detachment was the victim of an insider attack. He had a year’s worth of treatments, began his recovery at Walter Reed National Medical Center, and then was able to rejoin his squadron. Instead of opting for a medical military retirement, Nick set his eyes on returning to active duty. In 2015, Nick returned to his Detachment after a demanding test to determine his operational capability. After that, he was ordered back to Afghanistan to engage in full spectrum combat operations. The first Green Beret to recover from an above-the-knee amputation was Nick. He should not be alive. Doctors are baffled as to how he survived out of surgery for more than two hours with a severed femoral artery. Nick Lavery height and age Nick Lavery looks to be in his 40s. However, the exact date of his birth has not been made public. Since an army usually has a massive buildup, he has an incredible build. Nick is a tall man, measuring 6 feet 11 inches tall. He is also the husband and father of Dominic Lavery, and has been in the Army for over ten years. The birth of Nick’s son was one of the highlights of his life, but he would describe a typical good day as starting early, running, eating, and spending time with his wife and son. In his free time, he likes to exercise, read, swim, shoot, practice Brazilian jiu jitsu, and do everything with his family. He is described as kind, patient, modest, and determined.
