Tomi Lahren How I grew up and went to school Lahren was born in South Dakota and raised in Rapid City. In 2010, he graduated from Central High School. He comes from both Germany and Norway. Lahren earned a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism and political science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2014. She is the host of the university’s political roundtable show The Scramble and helped create it. Lahren worked as an intern for South Dakota Republican Congresswoman Kristi Noem. He was the first intern in Noem’s Rapid City office. Career Lahren applied to One America News Network (OANN) hoping to land an internship in political commentary. He got an interview and instead was given the opportunity to host his own show. He moved to California and began working for OANN in San Diego. In August 2014, On Point started with Tomi Lahren. In July 2015, a video of him talking about the Chattanooga shootings gained a lot of attention. On August 19, Lahren said she had just finished her last show with OANN. In November 2015, he moved to Texas and started a new show on TheBlaze. He was recognized at the end of his show in a very quick three-minute segment called “Final Thoughts.” On social media, these clips became popular. In the Republican Party primary for president in January 2016, Lahren supported Marco Rubio. On November 30, Lahren did a 26-minute interview on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Many critics said his appearance reminded them of the friendly competition between former hosts Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly. On March 17, 2017, Lahren was a guest on The View. He said women should be able to get abortions and that he would be a hypocrite if he supported both “limited government” and “government restrictions on abortion.” Glenn Beck, who owns TheBlaze and is opposed to abortion, criticized Lahren for her comments and suspended her with pay. Lahren then filed a lawsuit against Beck for wrongful termination. As part of the settlement, Lahren had to keep her Facebook page, but had to remove the videos she made on TheBlaze. In May 2017, Lahren began working in communications at the Great America Alliance, a branch of the large pro-Donald Trump super PAC Great America PAC, led by Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani. Lahren said her work there was just a “side gig” and that she would return to TV as a commentator. In August 2017, Lahren became a contributor for Fox News. Political thoughts In August 2018, Lahren spoke at a rally for Kelli Ward, who is running for the US Senate. Lahren calls herself a “Constitutional conservative.” He says he is a commentator, not a journalist, and his shows are not about presenting the news in a neutral way. Instead, they are about his opinions and “making news.” In 2018, The Daily Beast called him a “right-wing provocateur”. People said Lahren was “an anti-feminist who wants strong women.” Lahren says she doesn’t think of herself as a feminist, but she supports women’s rights and looks up to women on the left and right of the political spectrum.[ In March 2017, Lahren said she supported abortion rights. This caused many anti-abortion writers to criticize her. Glenn Beck, who owns TheBlaze, was one of several people who pointed out that Lahren had said in the past that she was against abortion, among other things. Shortly thereafter, Lahren told Playboy that she had always supported abortion rights as a matter of national law, but that she was personally against abortion. Lahren wrote a story for the Las Vegas Review-Journal when she was in college about a classmate who had to strip to make money. Lahren supports marriage between people of the same sex. In June 2020, he concurred in Neil Gorsuch’s majority vote and opinion in the joint cases of Bostock v. Clayton County, Altitude Express Inc. v. Zarda, and RG & GR Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which said businesses cannot fire LGBTQ people because of their sexuality or gender identity. Lahren said, “You can be a Christian, a proud Trump supporter, and a conservative and still think that people shouldn’t be fired for what they love. Conservative isn’t just a flavor, it’s a race , a religion, a gender, or a sexuality, and I’m not going to let some self-righteous, self-appointed, and self-anointed conservative thought police decide that.” Some of Lahren’s comments about race have been called racist or racial baiting, which she disagrees with. In July 2016, Lahren sent a tweet that compared the Black Lives Matter movement to the Ku Klux Klan. In response, ten -ten thousand people signed a petition on Change.org asking TheBlaze to fire him. The petition did not work. In August 2016, he released a video in which he criticized NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem before football games to protest police brutality.
