Whoopi Goldberg admits she’s “fundamentally selfish” and prefers hit-and-run relationships
Whoopi Goldberg is still against marriage.
The “Sister Act” star, who is famous for her lack of interest in marriage, said she’s still not interested in getting married but does like “runaway” romances.
“I’m basically a selfish person and I discovered that because I have a wonderful child, a son-in-law, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.[kid]that I don’t have time for a whole bunch of other people coming into my life,” she shared on Thursday’s episode “The Don Lemon Show.”
“Hitting and running are great, it doesn’t bother me,” Goldberg admitted. – But you can’t stay overnight.
Lemon, 58, then asked her “View” co-host if her affairs “still happen” while punching her.
“Oh, yes,” Goldberg emphasized.
She noted that she had to give herself “permission” to express these feelings due to the stigma around not wanting to be married or have a traditional relationship.
“There’s a whole bunch of words in your head about who you are if you say eloping and eloping is where you want to be and you don’t want to get married,” she said.
The “The Color Purple” actress also noted that she felt like she was trying to understand marriage because she saw other people’s happiness in their relationships.
“I didn’t realize I’d already figured it out,” she continued. “I was just surprised by the fact that I didn’t really want it, but I liked to hit and run. And my mom said, “Well, maybe you should just have parties from now on and not get married anymore.”
Now, at the age of 68, Goldberg has stated that she no longer has time for the give and take in marriage.
“It takes a lot,” she said. “I want to see you when I see you, and then you’re gone.”
Goldberg, who put an end to speculation about her sexuality last year, spoke candidly about her three marriages and divorces.
On an episode of “The View,” the EGOT winner said she “dances and parades” every time she gets divorced.
Goldberg first married drug counselor Alvin Martin in 1973, when she was just 18 years old. They divorced after six years of marriage and have a daughter together, Alexandrea (51).
Later in 1986, she became involved with Dutch cinematographer David Claessen. They separated two years later.
In 1994, the “Lion King” voice actress married actor Lyle Trachtenberg. They separated after a year of marriage.
