The producers didn’t let the actor work on other projects, so Selleck couldn’t play Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Harrison Ford got the part instead. It turned out that a writers’ strike prevented them from filming the pilot for Magnum for more than six months. This would have given him time to finish Raiders.
Look, I made a deal with Magnum, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I am proud to have fulfilled my contract. Some people said, “You have to get in a car and crash into a brick wall, get hurt, and then leave Magnum and [Raiders].” I said to them, “I have to look them in the eye, and we won’t,” so I did Magnum… Isn’t that so bad?
Selleck on the set of the 1984 TV show Magnum

The actual weapon used in the show was a 919mm Parabellum with serial number 70L33101.
