Why Gloria Estefan’s Barbie doll is her greatest honor

Being able to see other Latin American artists stay true to themselves, she added, is progress worth celebrating.

“It’s an honor to open those doors a little more,” Gloria, 64, said. “It was like that for me Carlos Santana, Jose Feliciano, Desi Arnaz– I saw him singing in Spanish I love Lucy when I was a kid and it was the most popular show in America.”

She continued, “These artists paved the way for me. So I kind of helped ease the situation… I mean, I was thrilled that Bad rabbit giving their acceptance speeches in Spanish and speaking in Spanish without needing adaptations. This is a great step forward.”

As she summed it up, “I love to see Latinos succeed in whatever they do, so I’m really glad they’re moving in that direction.”
