To prepare for her role on Netflix An echowhere the actress plays twin sisters Leni and Gina, Monaghan had a big challenge ahead of her, so she went a little stationery crazy.

“It was double work. If only you could see the mess of papers and slips and marks and markers and everything,” Monaghan exclusively told E! News. “I think I went to Staples and dropped a couple hundred dollars just on organizational stuff because I really, really needed it.”

Monaghan doesn’t just play twins on the show, she plays twins who switch lives every year on their birthdays. So, yes, shopping was necessary.

“I had different colors for each character,” she explained. “It was extremely, extremely important to be able to understand the very different, unique characteristics that each character has with each relationship in each world that they inhabit. There are little nuances that you may or may not pick up on that I’ve tried to make unique for each woman.”
