The singer’s post also included excerpts from her 2017 performance at the 22nd Annual Safe Horizon Champion Awards. Then Yana said that her alleged abuser was her ex-husband. (She previously accused her first husband of Michael Gambino, physical violence. In 2005, he was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to six years in prison. He was released in 2010, and two years later committed suicide.)
“It all started with little comments here and there,” she said in her speech, without naming her abuser. “Then even more verbal abuse began. And then it started with a push or shove. And then he began to suffocate.”
In the end, she felt like she lost her job because her performance at the auditions was affected by her situation.
“I was a girl full of light, full of energy and charm,” she said in 2017. “And this man just broke me to nothing.”
She added: “When my abuser ended up in prison, I was finally able to be free.”
